Porkies to Host October Trail Marathon | Events
The Michigan DNR has announced that Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park will host a marathon and several related events in October.
The Porcupine Mountains Trail Marathon is set for Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 a.m. with a route taking runners past Trap Falls and Lake of the Clouds and through the Carp River Valley. The day will include a half-marathon at 8:30 a.m., a 5K at 9 a.m., and a kids' 2K race at 10 a.m. All events begin at the ski chalet.
"The Porcupine Mountains, one of the largest tracts of wilderness east of the Mississippi River, provide stunning views along the single-track marathon course," said Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park manager William Doan in a press release. "The park offers a uniquely natural setting that pairs perfectly with Great Lakes Endurance’s focus on the sustainability, protection and awareness of the environment."
The marathon is open to 200 runners, and the half-marathon is open to 300. Fees are $85 for the marathon, $60 for the half-marathon, $25 for the 5K, and $18 for the kids' 2K. Registration is online-only at http://www.active.com/marathon/silver-city-mi/porcupine-mountains-trail-....
The event is sponsored by Great Lakes Endurance and Patagonia Footwear.
